Cookie Policy
Last updated: 22 August 2026
1. The short version
We use one analytics service that sets cookies, Google Analytics, and one that sets none, Ahrefs Web Analytics. We run no advertising and no advertising cookies. Whether the analytics cookies are set before you have said yes depends on where you are, and section 3 explains why.
Nothing you type into a calculator is covered by any of this. Those figures are worked out on your device and never reach us, so there is no cookie, log, or record of them anywhere. You can see this for yourself by loading a calculator, disconnecting from the internet, and running it.
You can change your choice whenever you like, from the Cookie preferences link at the bottom of every page.
2. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to keep. On later visits the browser hands it back, which is how a site can tell that two visits came from the same device. Some cookies are needed to make a site work at all. Ours are not: they exist only so we can count visits and see which calculators and guides people actually use.
Two related technologies do similar jobs, and we use both. Local storage keeps a value on your device until something clears it. Session storage keeps a value only until you close the tab. Neither is sent to a server the way a cookie is. Section 4 lists what we put in each.
3. Your choices, and why they differ by country
Different countries take different views on whether analytics cookies may be set before a visitor agrees. Rather than apply one rule everywhere, we apply the rule that fits where you are:
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland: analytics storage is denied until you choose Accept. If you do nothing, or choose Reject, no analytics cookies are set. Accept and Reject are offered as equally easy choices, in the same size, weight, and colour.
- Everywhere else, India included: analytics storage is on by default, we tell you so in a notice, and you can turn it off at any time through Cookie preferences. Turning it off takes effect immediately and is remembered.
Two independent systems enforce this. Google's own consent mechanism applies the regional rule using Google's geolocation before any measurement happens, and our banner uses Cloudflare's geolocation to decide which of the two messages to show you. The protection does not depend on the banner: if the banner fails to load, or you block it, a visitor in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland is still not measured.
If we cannot work out where you are, we treat you as though you were in the stricter group and ask for consent.
4. What we set, and when
Nothing in this table is set while analytics storage is denied, apart from the record of your own choice.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Cookie, set by Google Analytics | Tells one returning device from another so a repeat visit is not counted as a new person. Set only once analytics storage is allowed. | 2 years |
_ga_SW58YMH6Z4 |
Cookie, set by Google Analytics | Holds the state of your current visit, so that pages viewed a few minutes apart are understood as one session. Set only once analytics storage is allowed. | 2 years |
rvbi_consent |
Local storage, set by us | Remembers the choice you made, so you are not asked again on every page. This is the one thing we store whatever you choose, including when you choose Reject, because without it we could not honour the refusal. | Until you clear it |
rvbi_consent_region |
Session storage, set by us | Holds the answer to "which banner should this visitor see", so we do not repeat the country lookup on every page. | When you close the tab |
Ahrefs Web Analytics sets nothing at all. It is cookieless by design, records only aggregate visit counts, and cannot follow you to another website, which is why it runs for everyone and is not part of the choice above.
Cloudflare, which serves this site, sets no cookies on it at present. Were we to switch on additional bot filtering, Cloudflare would set an operational cookie of its own to tell automated traffic from real visitors. That would be a security measure rather than analytics, would carry no advertising function, and would be added to the table above.
5. How we work out which country you are in
Your device's IP address carries a rough indication of location, and Cloudflare, which sits in front of this site, resolves it to a two-letter country code before the request reaches us. We read that country code and nothing else: not the IP address itself, not your city, and not your coordinates.
The country code is used for one purpose, choosing which of the two messages in section 3 to show you. It is not stored on a server, not written to a cookie, not attached to your analytics data, and not used to vary anything else on the site. It is held in your browser's session storage for the length of the visit, and it is gone when you close the tab.
Google separately derives its own view of your location from your IP address in order to apply the regional consent rule. That processing is Google's, and it is described in the Google materials linked in section 7.
6. Changing or withdrawing your choice
Use the Cookie preferences link at the bottom of any page. It reopens the same choice, and offers both Accept and Reject wherever you are, so withdrawing is exactly as easy as agreeing was.
Withdrawal takes effect straight away for any measurement after it. It does not delete cookies already on your device, so if you want those gone as well, clear cookies for this site in your browser. Your browser's settings can also block cookies from this site outright, and Google publishes a Google Analytics opt-out add-on that works across every site you visit.
Every calculator on this site works exactly the same way with analytics refused, cookies blocked, or JavaScript storage disabled. Nothing here is withheld in exchange for consent.
7. Who else is involved
Two companies receive anything at all, and neither receives your calculator inputs:
- Google Privacy Policy and how Google Analytics handles data
- Ahrefs Privacy Policy and Ahrefs Web Analytics, the cookieless tool
- Cloudflare Privacy Policy, covering the hosting and the country lookup described in section 5
Where analytics data is sent outside India, and what rights you have over it, are covered in our privacy policy.
8. Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a cookie, or change who receives data, we will update this page and the date at the top of it. Material changes to what we ask consent for will be put back to you through the banner rather than applied quietly.
9. Contact
Questions about cookies, consent, or anything on this page can go to privacy@rentvsbuyindia.com. We aim to reply within 30 days, as the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 requires.
